Israeli Army: Hamas is 'destroying' Shifa Hospital

Israeli Army spokesperson Daniel Hagari stated in a video statement that Hamas is 'destroying Shifa Hospital' in northern Gaza. He made these remarks while the Israeli Army is engaged in military operations against the group at Shifa Medical Center, the largest medical facility in the Gaza Strip. According to the Times of Israel, the spokesperson said '170 terrorists were neutralized in the vicinity of Shifa Hospital or around it while firing at our forces.' He mentioned that the Israeli Army has arrested hundreds of suspected terrorists confirmed to have connections with Hamas or Islamic Jihad. The spokesperson claimed that this operation has been one of the most successful actions since the war began. Hagari stated, 'Many of these terrorists participated in the planning and execution of the brutal massacre on October 7.' He noted that the operation is not over and that Hamas and Islamic Jihad fighters are currently entrenched inside sections of Shifa Hospital, with Hamas destroying the facility. He reported that Hamas fighters are shooting from inside the emergency room and maternity ward and are throwing explosives from the burn unit. He added, 'Terrorists hiding around the hospital fired mortars at our forces,' causing significant damage to the hospital buildings. According to the New York Times, Hamas claimed that 13 patients died in the Israeli Army's attack, stating they were deprived of medication or that their ventilators stopped functioning after the hospital lost power due to Israeli forces. Hagari asserted that the Israeli Army 'acts with precision and carefully considers the patients and medical staff inside the hospital.' He stated that the Israeli Army distinguishes between 'Hamas terrorists and civilians hiding behind them.' Meanwhile, Reuters reported on Monday, citing Palestinian doctors, that the Israeli Army killed dozens in new attacks in Gaza. According to Reuters, Israeli forces also besieged two hospitals, claiming that Hamas militants were hiding in them. Palestinian witnesses stated that these two hospitals are located in the southern city of Khan Younis. Concurrently with the Israeli attacks, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated that there is an increasing international consensus urging Israel for a ceasefire, warning that an attack on Rafah would lead to a humanitarian catastrophe. Israel has emphasized its attack on Rafah, which houses many refugees, to eliminate Hamas. Palestinian doctors reported that 30 people have been killed in Rafah in the past 24 hours.
