Israeli Army Intercepts Houthi Missile in Israeli Sky

The Israeli army announced that it intercepted a missile launched from Yemen that entered Israeli territory early Wednesday morning. The army stated, "Sirens were activated due to the possibility of shrapnel hitting the area." According to Reuters, the country's ambulance service reported that there were approximately 9 injuries as people were heading towards the protected area. The Israeli army posted on social media platform X that "for the fifth time in a week, millions of Israelis were sent to shelters due to missile attacks by Houthi terrorists in Yemen." The Houthi group, supported by the Iranian government, has repeatedly fired drones and missiles towards Israel, describing it as an act of solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated in a Hebrew video on Sunday, January 2, that the country would act against the Houthis just as it does against other "terrorist arms of the Iranian regime... with strength." Netanyahu added that Israel would not act alone against the Houthis, as the United States and other countries also view the Houthis as a threat "not only to international shipping but to global order." Netanyahu's threat against the Houthis comes as the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that U.S. fighter jets targeted Houthi storage facilities and missile command centers in Sanaa on Saturday evening, January 1. According to this report, CENTCOM forces also destroyed several drones and an anti-ship cruise missile launched by the Houthis over the Red Sea during this operation. CENTCOM conducted these attacks to disrupt and weaken Houthi operations to prevent further attacks against U.S. Navy warships and commercial vessels in the southern Red Sea, Bab el-Mandeb, and the Gulf of Aden. The Houthis, a group supported by the Islamic Republic, launched a missile attack on a public park in southern Tel Aviv on Saturday, injuring 16 Israeli citizens, including a 3-year-old girl. The group also carried out two missile and drone attacks against Israel on the previous Monday and Thursday.
