Prior to the approval of the 'Cancellation of Reasonableness' law, it was emphasized in a letter to Netanyahu that the Islamic Republic of Iran and Hezbollah view this issue as a 'historic opportunity' to change the strategic situation in the region. The government's attempt to alter the judicial system, led by Netanyahu's coalition of nationalist and religious parties, has sparked unprecedented protests, raised concerns about the health of democracy in Israel among its Western allies, and impacted the country's economy. The report states that while previous discussions focused on 'tactical' attacks aimed at deterrence, the intelligence community is now worried about significant vulnerabilities in Israel's deterrent capabilities due to the ongoing crisis. The report also noted that the Chief of Staff of the Israeli Army supported this intelligence assessment during a meeting with Netanyahu earlier in the week. According to the report, Israel's deterrence relies on four 'pillars' including Israel's military power, relations with the U.S., the economy, and internal cohesion, but reports indicate that Iran and Hezbollah see the current crisis as 'serious and impactful' in the long term. Reuters reported that officials from the Islamic Republic of Iran and Hamas recently discussed the internal crisis in Israel but decided not to intervene to avoid assisting Netanyahu. Palestinian sources also told Haaretz that Hamas's position does not indicate a change in approach, and they will continue their policy of maintaining a ceasefire in Gaza to prevent escalating tensions with Israel that would divert attention from internal protests.
