Israeli Army's Instruction to Palestinians: Go to Shelters

Palestinian residents of the city of "Beit Lahia" in northern Gaza Strip reported to the Associated Press on Thursday, October 12, that Israeli planes dropped brochures warning them to evacuate their homes and go to shelters. The notices stated: "Anyone near Hamas terrorists puts their life at risk. Following the Israeli army's instructions will prevent you from being exposed to danger." This area had previously been heavily attacked. Gaza Strip shelters are not safe from airstrikes. The UN Palestinian Refugee Agency reported that since the start of Israeli operations, it has witnessed attacks on 10 of its shelters. Residents of the Gaza Strip have said that the Israeli army often does not warn them before attacking residential areas or gives them warnings, but they do not have enough time to evacuate before attacks on their homes. Israeli defense officials stated that they try to give warnings before attacks. In this context, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, consisting of 57 countries, issued a statement on Thursday, October 12, strongly condemning "Israel's military violence against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip." However, the Israeli army emphasizes that the targets it attacks are "legitimate targets" and claims that Hamas hides in buildings where civilians are present. Israeli attacks began after Hamas militants attacked southern Israel on Saturday, October 7. In the Hamas attack, over 1,300 people were killed, most of whom were civilians. Additionally, more than 3,300 people were injured following the Hamas attack. Hamas militants have taken about 200 Israeli civilians and soldiers hostage, as well as several nationals from other countries.
