Israeli Committee: Trump's Return is an Opportunity to Confront the Iranian Regime

A committee appointed by Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel, to examine defense costs and design the military force of the country, states that Donald Trump's election as President of the United States provides an "unprecedented" opportunity to eliminate the threat posed by the Islamic Republic of Iran. This committee reported on Monday, January 7, that Trump's return to the White House "for the first time creates the potential for a fundamental change and a significant reduction or elimination of the Iranian regime's threat." It is expected that Trump will present a plan for the "maximum pressure" campaign he pursued during his first term to pressure the Islamic Republic to abandon its nuclear program. The findings of this committee coincide with a report from Axios stating that Ron Dermer, Israel's Minister of Strategic Affairs, believes that after a recent meeting with Trump, the elected President of the United States supports or may even order an attack on Iran's nuclear facilities. This committee, chaired by General Professor Jacob Nagel and composed of representatives from the Prime Minister's Office, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Defense, and the Israeli Army, is tasked with determining the military force structure and budget for Israel for the next decade. Part of the report states that the Islamic Republic's nuclear program is a "vital threat that must be neutralized at all costs and by any means, directly or indirectly." The committee indicates that until now, there have been no diplomatic or operational conditions to end this program, and only its speed has decreased. The Axios report cites Israeli sources stating that Ron Dermer thinks Trump supports an Israeli attack on Iran's nuclear facilities or may even order the United States to target them. Meanwhile, sources close to the elected President of the United States believe that Trump will seek a new nuclear agreement with the Islamic Republic. Axios also notes that Israel is seriously considering attacking Iran's nuclear facilities, and some aides to Joe Biden, the soon-to-be outgoing President of the United States, have urged him to target these facilities before Trump takes office. The publication also reminds that currently, there are no discussions in the White House regarding this attack. According to reports, Dermer is scheduled to travel to Washington this week to meet with Biden and Trump's aides.
