Israeli Defense Minister Discusses Iran Threat with Ukrainian Counterpart

Yoav Gallant, the Israeli Defense Minister, spoke on the phone with Oleksii Reznikov, the Ukrainian Defense Minister, on Wednesday, June 21, about a range of issues including "Ukraine's counteroffensive and the threat from Iran." According to i24 News, the Israeli Ministry of Defense stated that Gallant was "updated on the battlefield developments" and expressed concern about the "humanitarian situation in Ukraine." The statement noted: "The two sides also discussed the common threat posed by Iran and its impact on the war in Ukraine as well as its broader global implications." Western countries accuse the Islamic Republic of sending drones to Russia for use in the war against Ukraine. The Islamic Republic denies this accusation, but senior Ukrainian military officials have repeatedly provided evidence of Iranian Shahed 136 drones being used in attacks on cities and infrastructure in Ukraine. The Israeli Defense Minister stated, "If necessary, we will act directly against the threats from Iran." Israel warned that Iran's progress in uranium enrichment to 90 percent could ignite the region. The Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff stated that the Islamic Republic is only months away from producing a nuclear weapon. Meetings between U.S. and Israeli officials at the White House are coordinated to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
