Israeli Defense Minister Warns Hezbollah and Islamic Republic of Iran of 'Unprecedented Response'

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant stated that if the Islamic Republic of Iran and Hezbollah launch an unprecedented attack on Israel, the country will respond in a manner it has never done before. According to the Times of Israel on Sunday, Gallant made this statement at a military base to Israeli forces. He said, 'We have significant capabilities. I hope they take this into account and do not create a war on additional fronts.' Gallant mentioned that Israel is fighting for its existence in a 'hostile environment.' He told newly recruited Israeli forces that they have joined the army at a historically 'challenging' and 'important' juncture. Middle Eastern countries have been concerned for some time about a potential large-scale attack by the Islamic Republic and its proxy groups like Hezbollah against Israel and the expansion of war. These concerns have arisen following threats from Islamic Republic officials in response to the killing of Ismail Haniyeh, the Hamas leader in Tehran. Israel has neither confirmed nor denied involvement in Haniyeh's killing, although Hamas had promised to kill him after the October 7 attack. Opponents of the Islamic Republic have expressed significant dissatisfaction with the Iranian government's spending of substantial resources to support militia and terrorist groups in the region. Prince Reza Pahlavi, reacting to Haniyeh's death, called him a 'super terrorist' and stated, 'Ismail Haniyeh should never have set foot on Iranian soil,' and his presence was 'an insult to our country and nation.' He described the Islamic Republic's intention to potentially attack Israel in retaliation for Haniyeh's killing as 'Khamenei's game with fire' and stated that this war is not the war of the Iranian people. In Israel, Channel 12 reported on Sunday that several foreign airlines have canceled their flights to Ben Gurion International Airport in Tel Aviv during the October holidays amid rising regional tensions. The Jewish New Year in 2024 begins in October. The Israeli army also announced that its fighter jets attacked several buildings used by Hezbollah in southern Lebanon on Sunday. The Hezbollah militia also fired several missiles and rockets into northern Israel on the same day, one of which hit a previously evacuated border area.
