Israeli Defense Minister: We Will Cut the Islamic Republic's 'Octopus Arms' in the West Bank

Israel Katz, the Israeli Defense Minister, emphasized that his country is working to ensure the security of residents in the region by cutting the 'octopus arms' of the Islamic Republic in refugee camps located in Judea and Samaria (West Bank). On Sunday, January 13, Katz added during a meeting assessing Israel's military and security operations that Israel will not allow the West Bank to become like Gaza or southern Lebanon. Earlier this year, he warned of the formation of an 'Iran-Hamas terrorist infrastructure' similar to the patterns seen in Gaza, Lebanon, Yemen, and Iraq in the West Bank. The Israeli internal security service (Shin Bet) also announced last month that it had thwarted recent efforts by the Islamic Republic of Iran to smuggle large quantities of advanced weapons into the West Bank to arm 'terrorist elements' in that region. According to the 'Times of Israel,' information regarding the operations of the Israeli army and border police in the West Bank, as well as the arrest of members of 'a terrorist cell,' was presented to Israel Katz during the meeting on January 13. Since the terrorist attack by Hamas on October 7 of last year against Israel, and the subsequent operations by the Israeli army in Gaza aimed at destroying this Iran-backed group and recovering kidnapped hostages, tensions in the West Bank have escalated. The 'Times of Israel' reported that the Israeli army has arrested about six thousand Palestinians, including over two thousand members associated with Hamas, in the West Bank. According to health officials from the Hamas government, more than eight hundred Palestinians residing in the West Bank have been killed during these operations. The Israeli army claims that most of them were attacking terrorists or armed individuals. At least 46 people, including several Israeli security personnel, have also been killed during terrorist attacks in Israel and the West Bank.
