Israeli Document Presented to the U.S. Congress Regarding the Nuclear Agreement

The Jerusalem Post has reported that the Israeli Prime Minister's Office has intensified its efforts to persuade the U.S. Congress to reject the comprehensive nuclear agreement reached between Iran and world powers, and in this regard, has prepared a "document." According to the Jerusalem Post in its Monday, July 27 issue, this Israeli "document" is intended to answer questions and ambiguities raised by Congress members regarding the recent agreement with Iran. The report states that the Israeli "document" proposes "alternative solutions" aimed at halting Iran's "suspicious" nuclear activities. The Jerusalem Post writes that this "document" responds to several questions posed by opponents of the agreement in Congress in recent days. The "Israeli document" will soon be distributed among members of Congress in Washington; the U.S. government has not yet reacted to this Israeli action. This move by Netanyahu's office comes as U.S. Secretaries of State, Energy, and Treasury attended a lengthy meeting of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee last Thursday, answering difficult questions from representatives, and this team is also expected to attend a meeting of the House Foreign Affairs Committee in the coming days. John Kerry, the U.S. Secretary of State, has recently given a series of speeches and interviews with both domestic and international media to support the agreement reached with Iran, emphasizing that if Congress rejects the agreement, Israel will be held "responsible" and will become "more isolated." President Barack Obama has also been very active in efforts by his administration to persuade Congress to approve this agreement. However, the New York Times reported on Saturday, citing "an Israeli official," that Israel will not "yield to pressure and threats" and will continue its efforts against the agreement reached with Iran. Since July 14, when the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) was reached as a result of lengthy negotiations between Iran and the five permanent members of the Security Council plus Germany, Israel has called it a "historic mistake," and the Prime Minister has dedicated all his meetings with global officials to strong positions against this agreement. According to the Jerusalem Post, the Israeli Prime Minister's Office warns in its prepared "document" that Iran's "nuclear breakout time" will be reduced to "zero" at the end of ten years of monitoring its nuclear activities. This "document" also suggests that the sanctions regime against Iran be lifted gradually, provided that Iran also halts its "military" nuclear program step by step. The Israeli "document" also seeks to intensify restrictions against Iran if it fails to implement the first solution, putting Iran under severe pressure to end its activities in "support of terrorism and anti-Israeli actions." The "document" raises critical questions about many other clauses of the 159-page agreement between Iran and world powers, particularly criticizing the 24-day deadline given to Iran for inspectors to enter the country and allowing Iran to conduct its own sampling at sites like Parchin. The "document" states that Israel had no role in the agreement reached with Iran and therefore does not consider itself bound by it even if the entire international community approves it. Meanwhile, the Israeli "document" does not provide further details regarding Israel's next actions concerning its non-compliance with this agreement. However, John Kerry stated in recent days that if Israel were to attack Iran's nuclear facilities, it would be making a "very big mistake."
