Israeli Forces Arrest Head and Several Doctors of Shifa Hospital

On Thursday, December 2, Israeli army forces arrested Mohammed Abusalmieh, the head of Shifa Hospital, along with several doctors from the hospital in Gaza. The news was reported by the 'Kan' news network and several Israeli media outlets like the Jerusalem Post, initially announced by Palestinian sources. The arrest of the head of Shifa Hospital occurred after the Israeli army released videos showing two Hamas hostages at this medical facility. Previously, Hamas had denied any use of this hospital, including the existence of tunnels beneath the medical center. The head of Shifa Hospital had also repeatedly reiterated this position. Hamas militants, supported by the Islamic Republic, took more than 240 hostages during the attack on Israel on October 6, which resulted in over 1,200 deaths, and transported them to the Gaza Strip. Some of the hostages are young children and elderly individuals. In this context, the Hamas militant group condemned the arrest of Mohammed Abusalmieh, calling it 'despicable and devoid of any sense of humanity and ethics.' The group urged international organizations, including the International Committee of the Red Cross and the World Health Organization, with which Mohammed Abusalmieh was in contact for evacuating other patients and injured individuals from Shifa Hospital, to work for his release.
