Israeli Navy Air Defense System 'Successfully' Shoots Down Drone for the First Time

The Israeli army announced on Tuesday that it used a naval missile defense system for the first time to shoot down a drone approaching the port city of Eilat from the Red Sea. According to the 'Times of Israel', the drone's approach triggered alarm sirens in Eilat. Eilat has frequently been targeted by missiles from Houthi militants backed by the Islamic Republic of Iran in Yemen. The Israeli army stated that it has deployed missile boats in the Red Sea since the onset of the Gaza war. In another development, the New York Times reported, citing Israeli officials, that the Islamic Republic is attempting to destabilize the West Bank through various means, including resorting to criminal groups to smuggle weapons. Previously, the Persian section of Voice of America had published various reports on this matter. Last July, prior to Hamas's attack on southern Israel on October 7, Jonathan Schanzer, a Middle East expert at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies and author of the book 'The 2021 Gaza Conflict', told Voice of America: 'We are witnessing that Iranian proxy groups now have a strategy that was not previously the case.' He noted the increased coordination among militant groups, stating: 'This strategy has been devised by the Revolutionary Guards to dictate what each group should do.' At that time, he mentioned that Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, has increased its influence in the West Bank under the guidance of the Iranian government. Experts have expressed concern over the activities of 19 Iranian proxy groups around Israel. The Israeli Defense Minister stated that the Iranian government is seeking terrorist attacks in the West Bank. Shin Bet reported that an Iranian plan to smuggle weapons into the West Bank has been thwarted. Hundreds have been arrested in the West Bank; the Israeli army stated that our intelligence harms enemies 'from Gaza to Iran.'
