Israeli Official Blames Iran for Rocket Attack from Syria to Israel

Following a rocket attack on Thursday night from the Syrian Golan Heights to a village in the Israeli section of the heights, Israel has identified Iran as the main perpetrator of the attack, while the Israeli army conducted retaliatory strikes in Syria. According to the website 'Ynet', affiliated with Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper, a senior Israeli military official claimed that the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard was behind the attack, delegating its execution to the Palestinian Islamic Jihad organization. The Israeli commander alleged that Saeed Izadi, head of Palestinian affairs in the Quds Force's extraterritorial branch, planned the attack. Israel added that the Palestinian Islamic Jihad is financially and militarily supported by Iran. The report also mentioned Samir Quntar and Mustafa Mughniyeh, two senior Hezbollah members recently active in the Syrian Golan against Israel. Israel stated that four rockets fired from the Syrian Golan landed in an open area in an Israeli village, causing no casualties, while the fifth rocket, which struck near a settlement, caused a fire in the fields. This was the first time in the past ten years that residents of the area went to shelters due to the sound of warning sirens. Israeli media reported that Israeli helicopters also flew and bombed targets in the Quneitra province in Syria, while simultaneously, Israeli artillery fired at targets across the border. While the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that 'several Syrian soldiers' were killed in the Israeli attack, the Syrian army officially announced that one soldier was killed and seven others were wounded. In a statement from the Israeli army spokesperson, Syria was warned that the 'consequences' of this rocket attack would fall on Syria as Israel considers Syria 'responsible'. Meanwhile, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad organization rejected the accusations from the Israeli army regarding their involvement in the rocket attack. Dawood Shahab, spokesperson for the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, stated in his denial to Reuters: 'The occupiers have made this false claim to divert attention from the oppression against Mohammad Allan, the Palestinian prisoner hero.' Mohammad Allan, a member of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad who was arrested by Israel nine months ago without any charges ever being filed against him, went on a 65-day hunger strike and recently fell into a coma. Following intervention by the Israeli Supreme Court, the government was forced to annul Allan's detention without charges, and after coming out of a coma in an Israeli hospital, he ended his hunger strike on Thursday, August 29.
