Israeli Settlers Attack Village in West Bank

A group of Israeli settlers stormed the residents of the village of 'Jit' in the West Bank, setting fire to several homes and vehicles. This attack occurred on Thursday evening, August 25, and according to Israeli media, the assailants, many of whom covered their faces, threw stones and Molotov cocktails, igniting several homes and vehicles. The Palestinian Authority's Ministry of Health reported the death of a 23-year-old Palestinian in this attack, an event that senior Israeli officials also condemned. Isaac Herzog, the President of Israel, strongly condemned this assault in a statement, and the office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu emphasized that he views this incident as 'serious,' labeling the attack as an inappropriate act in the 'fight against terrorism.' Yoav Gallant, Israel's Defense Minister, and Herzi Halevi, the commander of the Israeli army, also condemned the attack, referring to the perpetrators as 'rioters' who hinder security forces from their 'main mission of neutralizing terrorism.' According to the Times of Israel, the attackers, numbering over 100, set fire to at least four homes and six vehicles in the village of 'Jit.' The Israeli army stated that minutes after the report of the attack, forces and border police officers were dispatched to the scene and used aerial gunfire and dispersal methods to drive the settlers away from the village. Palestinians have consistently accused Israeli security forces of allowing violent settler groups to attack their homes and villages. These attacks have raised increasing international concerns. The United States and several European countries have imposed sanctions on violent settlers and have urged Israel to take further actions to prevent these attacks.
