Israeli Soldiers 'Mistakenly' Kill Three Hostages in Northern Gaza

Daniel Hagari, spokesperson for the Israeli army, announced on Friday, December 15, that three Israeli hostages were mistakenly killed by soldiers in northern Gaza. According to him, the soldiers misidentified the three hostages as a threat and opened fire, resulting in their deaths. The spokesperson described the incident as 'tragic and painful for all of us' and stated that the army takes full responsibility for it. Hagari noted that the incident occurred in an area where Israeli soldiers faced 'numerous terrorists, including suicide bombers,' and immediately after this incident, another confrontation with 'terrorists' occurred nearby. The spokesperson identified two of the deceased as 'Yotam Haim' and 'Samer Talalka,' adding that the identity of the third person would not be disclosed at the request of their family. According to 'The Times of Israel,' Hagari responded to a question about how the three had escaped from Hamas captivity, stating that the Israeli army believes they 'either escaped or were released by the terrorists who had abducted them.' Hagari added that after the shooting and during the examination of the bodies, there was immediate doubt about their identities, and after sending the bodies to Israel for examination, it was confirmed that all three were hostages abducted by Hamas. He stated that the Israeli army is in the process of gathering facts and clarifying the incident, but at the same time, new protocols for identifying hostages have been transferred to ground forces to do everything possible to prevent a recurrence of such a tragic incident. Following the deadly terrorist attack by Hamas on October 7, which resulted in the deaths of 1,200 people and the abduction of about 240 others, Israel entered into war against Hamas and began a ground invasion of Gaza aimed at destroying this Islamist group. Hamas is listed as a terrorist organization by the European Union, the United States, and Israel.
