Israeli Tanks Advance in Rafah; 14 Killed in Various Areas of Gaza

The Israeli army claims to have killed hundreds of Palestinian militants in its operations in Rafah in recent weeks, discovering tunnels and explosives, and destroying military infrastructure. Israel's request to maintain control over the southern border line between Rafah and Egypt has been the focal point of international efforts to achieve a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. The U.S. is mediating with Qatar and Egypt to establish a ceasefire but has been unable to bring Israel and Hamas closer to a final agreement. Israel's request to keep its forces in the 'Philadelphi' corridor between Gaza and Egypt, and the details of a prisoner exchange involving Israeli hostages and Palestinian prisoners held by Israel, are two main obstacles in the negotiations.
