Italian Prime Minister: A Large Italian Delegation is Going to Iran

Matteo Renzi, the Prime Minister of Italy, announced during a meeting with Hassan Rouhani, the President of Iran, that Italy will soon send a "large and extremely important delegation" to Tehran. According to the Iranian Students' News Agency (ISNA), in the meeting held on Sunday in New York, the Italian Prime Minister stated that this delegation will focus on sectors such as industry, environment, automotive, oil and gas, medical equipment, and mining. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York. The report added that President Rouhani also mentioned the "history of activity and cooperation of some Italian companies in the oil, gas, and heavy industries" with Iran, stating that "the ground for their activity and competition in the Iranian economy is more favorable." The Iranian President noted that "there are many opportunities for investment in sectors ranging from oil and gas to petrochemicals, transportation, and industries and mines in Iran," adding, "In this new era, we are interested in top Italian companies not only investing but also transferring technology and focusing on joint production of products for domestic use and export." In recent weeks, after Iran and world powers reached a final agreement on the Islamic Republic's nuclear program and how to lift sanctions against Iran, delegations from European countries have traveled to Tehran to explore potential cooperation with Iran, including two delegations from France and Germany, which are considered the largest economic and industrial powers in Europe. International sanctions against Iran in recent years have led to the exit of European companies from various sectors in Iran.
