Jaber Sokhrawi, Political Prisoner, Suffers 'Stroke'

Some human rights sources have reported that Jaber Sokhrawi, a political prisoner in Shiban Prison in Ahvaz, suffered a 'stroke' and was transferred to a hospital, expressing concern over the possibility of his return to prison despite the need for 'special care'. According to the Karun Human Rights Organization, this political prisoner, who has been suffering from 'multiple sclerosis' and has spent the last 10 years in prisons in Ahvaz, became unconscious on Friday, July 15, showing signs of a stroke, and was transferred to Golestan Hospital five days later, on Wednesday, July 20. The Karun Organization added that based on medical tests, Jaber Sokhrawi had suffered a stroke and required immediate treatment and long-term care due to high blood pressure over 17. The human rights organization further expressed concern about the possibility of his return to prison on Saturday, July 23, adding that the attending physician emphasized the need for this political prisoner to receive 'special care' in the hospital. According to this report, Jaber Sokhrawi's condition after the stroke was critical, and he had lost the ability to walk and speak. Under these circumstances, one of his hands was handcuffed to the bed, and several security and law enforcement officers were assigned to guard him in the hospital, and he has thus far been denied visits in the hospital. According to Arash Sadeghi, a human rights activist and former political prisoner, on his 'X' page, Jaber Sokhrawi has been 'in prison for 10 years without even a day of leave and with multiple sclerosis.' Jaber Sokhrawi was sentenced to 12 years and five months in prison for membership in the 'Arab Movement for the Liberation of Ahvaz', an opposition group to the Islamic Republic, and has spent 10 years in prison so far. Several prisoners have died due to lack of medical care or delayed treatment in the prisons of the Islamic Republic.
