Jamshid Andalibi, Renowned Iranian Ney Player, Passes Away

Jamshid Andalibi, a renowned Iranian ney player, passed away on Tuesday, March 6, at the age of 66 due to cardiac arrest. Jamshid Andalibi was one of the most prominent ney players in Iranian music, learning to play this instrument from childhood without professional training. He later attended the University of Tehran and, through his acquaintance with Hossein Omoumi, continued to learn the principles and professional techniques of playing the ney, expanding his artistic activities. Jamshid Andalibi studied the repertoire of Iranian music with artists such as Nasrollah Nashtipur, Nourali Boroumand, and Mohammad Reza Lotfi, and in 1981, he went to Isfahan to complete advanced ney playing techniques with Hassan Kassai. In addition to producing several valuable musical works, he collaborated on projects such as 'Bidar', 'Nava', 'Dastan', 'Dood-e Oud', 'Aseman-e Eshq', 'Yad-e Ayam', 'Rosvaye Del', 'Payam-e Nasim', 'Del-e Majnoon', and 'Sarv-e Chaman'. Besides playing, Mr. Andalibi was also active in composition, with albums like 'Mihman-e To', 'Paeez-e Nizaar', and 'Mounes-e Jan' being among his works in this field. He arranged and played pieces by Abolhasan Saba with the ney in an educational repertoire format. Notably, he was also responsible for the ney solo in the enduring project 'Ney Nava' by Hossein Alizadeh, which was very successful. The music of 'Ney Nava' is among the valuable and significant melodies in the history of Iranian music, created in collaboration with Hossein Alizadeh, Jamshid Andalibi, and a group of prominent Iranian artists. The 'Koocheh' festival of Bushehr residents is at an impasse with 'governmental institutions'; the closing ceremony has been canceled. Warning from two cultural figures: Nazeri states that people have been deprived of 'everything', while Nasiriyan remarks that the space for 'human life' is very limited. Jamshid Jam, the singer of the song 'Yar-e Dabestani', has passed away. Shahrokh, an artist and pop singer, succumbed to cancer.
