Jamshid Sharmehds Daughter Calls for 'Immediate Punishment' of the Islamic Republic Following Her Father's Execution

Ghazaleh Sharmehds, the daughter of Jamshid Sharmehds, whose execution was announced by the Islamic Republic on November 7, expressed her protest in silence, displaying the Kaveh the Blacksmith's flag and tying her hair, stating that she is waiting for confirmation and explanations regarding her father's execution from German and American officials. In a note accompanying her protest, she wrote: 'Since a German-American has been brutally and shamelessly kidnapped, tortured, and held hostage for 4 years, and if confirmed, killed by the world's largest terrorist organization in retaliation for Israel's attacks on the regime, the Islamic Republic must be punished immediately.' Ghazaleh Sharmehds also added: 'In silence, I await a conversation with the German Foreign Ministry and the U.S. State Department soon to clarify whether they have evidence that the 'cowardly jihadists of the Islamic occupying regime' killed my father 'out of fear.' Addressing the governments of Germany and the United States, she asked, 'In these 4 years, while the Islamic Republic kidnapped a German-American citizen in Dubai and forcibly brought him to Iran, what have you done besides participating in negotiations with the kidnappers?' She expressed uncertainty about the accuracy of the news of her father's execution by the Islamic Republic, noting: 'If this news is confirmed, the U.S. and Germany must immediately bring my father's body home so that he can rest according to the customs of Zoroastrian Iranians, rather than remaining in the hands of the kidnappers.' The Islamic Republic's judiciary announced the execution of this political activist on Tuesday. Jamshid Sharmehds, a 68-year-old Iranian-German citizen and permanent resident of the United States, was kidnapped by the Islamic Republic's intelligence forces in the summer of 2020 in the United Arab Emirates and transferred to Iran. He was sentenced to death on charges of 'corruption on earth' after a trial that the international community deems 'fabricated.' Abram Paley, the Deputy Special Representative for Iran at the U.S. State Department, reacted to the news of Jamshid Sharmehds' execution on social media, stating: 'We are reviewing reports regarding the execution of Jamshid Sharmehds, a dual German-Iranian citizen, by the Islamic Republic, and we believe that if true, this indicates the latest heinous act of the regime in its long history of transnational repression and the accelerating pace of executions in Iran.' The German Foreign Ministry stated to Voice of America: 'The execution of Sharmehds will have serious consequences for the Iranian government.'
