Jeb Bush Officially Enters the U.S. Presidential Election Campaign

Jeb Bush, the former governor of Florida and brother of former U.S. President George W. Bush, officially announced his candidacy for the U.S. presidential election. According to the Associated Press, Mr. Bush stated on Monday, June 15, at a university in Miami, Florida, "I am entering this campaign with my heart. I am entering to win." Jeb Bush criticized the continued presence of Democrats in the White House, saying, "We need a president who is not just at the top of the Washington elite. We need a president who has the will to change policy in the capital." He also criticized current U.S. economic policies, stating, "We are witnessing the worst period of economic recovery and an increase in taxes on the middle class, and I am no longer willing to continue for another four years under these conditions." Jeb Bush criticized the foreign policy of the "Obama-Clinton" and "Obama-Kerry" administrations, saying, "You cannot manage foreign policy with phone conversations, and what remains of foreign policy is nothing but widespread violence, nameless enemies, unsupported friends, and disintegrating alliances." This presidential candidate has engaged in activities over the past few months indicating he was preparing for the presidential election, but had not officially announced his candidacy. Mr. Bush's advisors stated that he had not announced his candidacy due to campaign finance laws. According to this law, any electoral candidate can benefit from a base of supporters who financially assist them but cannot directly contact these groups. In recent weeks, Jeb Bush has clarified his plans and will no longer have direct contact with his financial supporters. In a video released to introduce this event, Mr. Bush is seen alongside minorities and children with special needs, conveying the message: "The most vulnerable class of society should be at the forefront, not at the back." He stated that he follows a new model of conservatism that encompasses all people and calls for their mobilization. George H.W. Bush, Jeb Bush's father and former U.S. president, and George W. Bush, former U.S. president, were not present at the event. Only Barbara Bush, Jeb Bush's 90-year-old mother, attended the ceremony, who previously stated in response to whether she supports another son of hers running for president that the country no longer needs a member of the Bush family for the presidency. Jeb Bush's campaign logo is limited to his first name "Jeb" and does not include the family name. Both previous members of the Bush family who were presidents left the White House with low approval ratings. George W. Bush, Jeb Bush's brother, is still criticized for the U.S. military intervention in Iraq. Jeb Bush joins a long list of Republican candidates who have announced their readiness to participate in the election. With over 16 candidates currently from the Republican Party, no candidate has yet shown the highest polling numbers. The report indicates that Mr. Bush's positions on issues such as education and immigration do not have much support among hardline conservatives.
