"Jihadi John", the masked ISIS killer is a British citizen

Two American sources announced on Thursday: Investigations show that the killer who plays the role of the executioner in ISIS hostage beheading videos and is known as "Jihadi John" is an individual named Mohammed Emwazi, a British citizen. Reuters reports that the masked man who threatens with his knife in ISIS videos is the same person who has beheaded hostages from ISIS, including American, British, and Syrian hostages. Mohammed Emwazi was born in Kuwait, grew up in a wealthy family in London, and completed his studies in computer programming in the city. It is said that Mohammed Emwazi, who threatens the West in these videos and mocks Western leaders including Barack Obama, the President of the United States, and David Cameron, the Prime Minister of Britain, went to Syria in 2012 and then joined ISIS militants. He appears in all the hostage beheading videos dressed entirely in black and wearing a mask that covers his face except for his eyes, with a leather holster for a pistol strapped to his left arm. ISIS fighters have given their British members the nickname "The Beatles". However, foreign hostages of ISIS referred to him as "John" or "George". Two American officials told Reuters that investigators believe "John", who is fluent in Arabic, is the son of a wealthy family residing in West London. He is a graduate in computer programming from Westminster University in London. The British government and police have refrained from confirming or denying the published information about this individual's identity. This information was first published as part of ongoing investigations in the Washington Post. Meanwhile, a spokesperson for David Cameron said: "We neither confirm nor deny intelligence matters." Asim Qureshi, research director of a British charity organization called "Cage" that has been in contact with Mohammed Emwazi since 2009, said he cannot definitively confirm that "Jihadi John" is indeed Mohammed Emwazi, but there are many similarities between them. The charity "Cage", which advocates for the rights of detainees accused of terrorism, stated that Mohammed Emwazi cited problems caused by British intelligence agencies due to his trip to Kuwait in 2010 as the reason for his visit to the organization. He said at that time he intended to travel to Kuwait for marriage and to find work. In an email he sent to the "Cage" organization, Mohammed Emwazi wrote: "I feel like a prisoner, not just in a cage but in London. I feel like I am imprisoned by agents and am under control, and they are preventing me from living in my homeland, my country, Kuwait." The charity "Cage" believes that the actions of British anti-terrorism agents are the reason for Mohammed Emwazi's radicalization. Mohammed Emwazi was arrested in 2009 while traveling to Tanzania with two other friends and was returned to Amsterdam. British and Dutch security agents accused him of attempting to travel to Somalia and returned him to the UK.
