Joe Biden Announces New $425 Million U.S. Aid Package to Ukraine

On Wednesday, October 25, U.S. President Joe Biden and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky discussed the latest developments regarding Russia's invasion of Ukraine and Kyiv's defense needs during a phone call. Biden announced the preparation of a new security aid package worth $425 million for Ukraine, which includes air defense equipment, armored vehicles, and critical ammunition that the Ukrainian army urgently needs. The U.S. President is also set to host a virtual meeting of the 'Ukraine Defense Contact Group' next month, aimed at enhancing coordination among Ukraine's supporters in providing international assistance to the country. Earlier on Wednesday, Zelensky unveiled his 'Victory Plan' and urged his allies to take 'immediate actions' to strengthen Kyiv during this perilous time instead of seeking to end the war with Russia. Zelensky is also scheduled to meet with defense ministers from NATO member countries in Brussels on Thursday to discuss his country's defense needs against the Russian military invasion. He is expected to raise the issue of Kyiv's accession to this Western defense alliance, although officials from member countries, including the U.S., as well as NATO's Secretary-General, believe there are still difficult issues that need to be resolved beforehand. The Middle East crisis and the Ukraine war are the main topics of the first summit of EU leaders and the Gulf Cooperation Council. Zelensky unveiled his proposed 'Victory Plan' in parliament, emphasizing the continued military and economic support of the United States for Ukraine. Ukraine's critical sympathy for Israel was also noted, as they believe they should unite to counter Iranian drones.
