Joe Biden, the President of the United States, congratulated Charles III, the King of Britain, and his wife, Queen Camilla, on their coronation. The coronation ceremony for King Charles III took place on Saturday, May 6, in London and has been described as the most magnificent ceremony in the past seventy years. The event was attended by guests from around the world, including a hundred world leaders and millions who watched the live broadcast. In a Twitter message, Joe Biden expressed pride in his wife's attendance at the coronation of King Charles III and described the enduring friendship between the United States and Britain as a source of strength for both countries. The coronation of Charles III was conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury, the spiritual leader of the Anglican Church, at Westminster Abbey in London. Charles was proclaimed King of Britain as he sat on a 14th-century throne wearing a 360-year-old royal crown. The tradition of royal coronation in Britain dates back to the 11th century, during the time of William the Conqueror in 1066. Camilla, Charles's second wife, was also crowned as queen in a two-hour ceremony. According to Reuters, although this ceremony was less grand compared to Queen Elizabeth's coronation in 1953, it did not lack splendor, and all royal insignia, including the jeweled sword and royal scepter, held special significance. While Charles officially became his mother's successor with the passing of Queen Elizabeth last year, the coronation serves as a way to legitimize the monarchy in front of the public. Despite the rain, tens of thousands gathered to watch the ceremony along the route of the royal carriage. However, hundreds of republican spectators attending the event held signs reading 'Not my King' in opposition to the monarchy. London witnessed a coronation after 70 years; Iran and Russia were not invited.
