Joe Biden Delivered His Farewell Speech from the White House

Joe Biden, the 46th President of the United States, delivered his farewell speech from his office in the White House, known as the "Oval Office," on Wednesday evening, January 26, 1403, just five days before the end of his four-year presidential term. He referred to the characteristics of American society in safeguarding democracy and its values, spoke about the actions taken for a smooth and peaceful transfer of power to the next government led by Republican Donald Trump, and wished him and his administration success. In addition to defending his administration's performance, Biden pointed out the spread of misinformation in society and its dangers for the American people. At the end of this speech, he thanked cabinet members and all government employees in the U.S. and around the world for their services. In a letter released early Wednesday, Biden referenced the beginning of his administration under the shadow of the COVID-19 pandemic and the January 6, 2021, attack on Congress, which was carried out by some of Trump's supporters with the aim of overturning the results of the 2020 election, in which Biden was victorious. The farewell speech of the 82-year-old Democratic President came a day after the release of the final report by Jack Smith, the special prosecutor who had accused Donald Trump of "illegal attempts" to remain in power after the November 2020 election. Smith stated in his report that there was sufficient evidence to convict Trump in court, but his victory in the 2024 election made further legal pursuit impossible. Trump has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing and claimed that the special prosecutor's investigations were politically motivated. Earlier on Monday, Biden defended his foreign policy record at the U.S. State Department in Washington. As he leaves the White House, according to the latest Gallup poll, his approval rating has dropped to 39%. Biden's Wednesday night speech was his fifth and final live address from the White House's "Oval Office."
