Joe Biden: We will continue military aid to Israel until they rid themselves of Hamas

Joe Biden, the President of the United States, once again supported the 'security of the Jewish people, the security of Israel, and its right to exist' following the terrorist attacks by Hamas on October 7. According to CNN, the U.S. President, while acknowledging issues between himself and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, jokingly mentioned that he once told the Israeli leader: 'I love you, but I disagree with what you are compelled to say.' He added, 'Today is no different.' However, Biden stated in remarks marking the fifth night of the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah that Israel is in a 'difficult position' following the Hamas attack and the subsequent war in Gaza. Biden said, 'We will continue to provide military aid to Israel until they rid themselves of Hamas, but we must be careful, and they must be careful. Global public opinion can change overnight; we cannot allow that to happen.' The U.S. President also praised his administration's efforts to free hostages still held in Gaza and to send humanitarian aid to the region. Biden stated, 'We are tirelessly working for the safe return of the hostages. I have personally spent countless hours - seriously, maybe up to 20 hours with Qataris, Egyptians, and Israelis - to ensure the release of the hostages, to send trucks into Gaza, to facilitate humanitarian aid, to convince them to open the crossing, and to ensure [Egyptian President] Abdel Fattah el-Sisi has opened the gateway to Egypt.' The U.S. President continued, 'A wide range of actions is currently taking place that is really very, very difficult. We have brought out over 100 hostages, and we will not stop until we bring each one of them home.' Joe Biden, alongside Doug Emhoff, the husband of Kamala Harris, was joined at the White House ceremony on Monday night by Emhoff and a group of White House officials who are descendants of Holocaust survivors. Israel claims to have besieged the last Hamas strongholds in northern Gaza. Leaders of four European countries have called on the President of the European Council to pursue a ceasefire in Gaza. The U.S. expects Israel to use the weapons received in accordance with international laws of war. France, Germany, and Italy have called for increased sanctions against Hamas. Israeli media report that Netanyahu has formed a 'secret' group to examine post-war plans.
