Joe Biden Withdraws from Democratic Party Candidacy for U.S. Presidential Election

Joe Biden, the President of the United States, announced on Sunday that he is withdrawing from the Democratic Party candidacy for the U.S. presidential election. The 46th President of the United States, who aimed to secure another term by winning the November 2024 election and considered himself the most qualified person to defeat Donald Trump, the Republican candidate, faced criticism from his own party in recent weeks. Criticism of the 81-year-old Biden intensified after the first debate, with several Democrats urging him to withdraw due to his 'poor performance in last month's debate and concerns about his chances of defeating former President Donald Trump.' Adam Schiff, the Democratic chair of the House Intelligence Committee, and George Clooney, a major supporter of Biden, were among those who called for his withdrawal. However, until today, Biden had not indicated whether he would remain in the race, stating that only 'God Almighty' could ask him to end his campaign. He later mentioned that if doctors advised him of any health issues, he would reconsider his candidacy for the upcoming presidential election. The process for Biden's successor for the Democratic Party candidacy in the presidential election will be pursued by the party, which will introduce a replacement candidate. In his statement on Sunday afternoon, Biden highlighted some of his administration's achievements, including rebuilding U.S. infrastructure, reducing drug costs for seniors, expanding health insurance for more individuals, providing more medical support for veterans, appointing the first Black American woman to the Supreme Court, and passing major climate change legislation, asserting that America has never been better prepared for leadership. He continued by stating that none of his administration's achievements would have been possible without the cooperation of the American people. Biden referenced his administration's success against the COVID-19 pandemic and the economic crisis in America, which he described as 'the worst crisis since the Great Depression,' stating that he has supported democracy in America and strengthened the country's alliances worldwide. Biden referred to serving as President as the greatest honor of his life and added that although he sought to run again in the upcoming presidential election, it is in the best interest of the Democratic Party and the American people for him to withdraw from the party's candidacy and focus on fulfilling his duties as President until the end of this term. He mentioned that he would speak more about this with the American people this week. Shortly after his withdrawal from the Democratic candidacy, Biden expressed his support for Kamala Harris's candidacy by sharing a picture of himself with her. He fully endorsed Kamala Harris as the Democratic representative in the November presidential election and urged his fellow party members to join him in paving the way to defeat Donald Trump. Chuck Schumer, the Democratic majority leader in the Senate, reacted to Biden's decision to withdraw from the Democratic candidacy by calling him 'a true patriot and an extraordinary American.' According to Senator Schumer, 'Joe Biden has not only been a great president and a great legislative leader but also an amazing human being.'
