Judiciary Chief Urges Negotiators to Write Clear Details of Agreement

On Wednesday, the head of the judiciary of the Islamic Republic urged Iran's nuclear negotiating team to write the details of the agreement with the P5+1 countries "clearly" to prevent any issues that could lead to "foreign exploitation." According to Tasnim News Agency, Sadeq Amoli Larijani stated on Wednesday, April 19, that the nuclear negotiating team faced a very difficult task and should be supported and appreciated for their efforts so that they can successfully conclude the nuclear issue in the upcoming critical months. He added that this support does not contradict the efforts to eliminate existing ambiguities. The Judiciary Chief emphasized that the negotiating team should strive to draft the nuclear agreement with precision and clarity, ensuring that ambiguities and issues that could lead to foreign exploitation do not arise. While Ali Larijani, the head of the legislative branch, described the Lausanne nuclear agreement as a "good sign for resolving Iran's nuclear issue," on the same day, Mohammad Reza Bahonar, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, reminded the negotiators to avoid using terms and expressions that could be subject to interpretation in the agreed texts. In recent days, several conservative representatives in Parliament have criticized the "ambiguities" in the Lausanne agreement statement. The timing of lifting sanctions on Iran, the operation of the Fordow site, and the duration of the suspension of enrichment at Iran's nuclear facilities are among the issues that Iranian opponents of the Lausanne agreement have labeled as "ambiguities." Some of these critics, including several conservative representatives, have stated that the texts announced by Iran and the U.S. regarding this agreement differ and have called for the Iranian Foreign Ministry to provide the text of the agreement. Mohammad Javad Zarif, Iran's Foreign Minister, recently explained the Lausanne agreement to Parliament members during a closed session of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission. Ali Akbar Salehi, head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization, also reported that the "fact sheet" detailing Iran's agreement with the P5+1 in Lausanne has been prepared and will be published at the discretion of Foreign Minister Zarif. Meanwhile, according to reports, Israeli officials have prepared a list of what they consider to be the "shortcomings" in the recent nuclear agreement framework between Iran and global powers.
