Judiciary of Jahrom Announces Execution of 'Attacker of Jahrom Women' in Public

ISNA reported that the head of the Jahrom judiciary announced that the death sentence of Saeed Beheshti Far, a 24-year-old accused of attacking 9 women with a knife in 2014, was carried out in public on Sunday, August 31, at one of the intersections in Jahrom. According to Mohammad Esmaei, the head of the Jahrom judiciary, this individual had injured 9 women in the city two years ago with a knife from behind. Mr. Esmaei stated that after confirming the 'sanity at the time of the crime,' he was sentenced to death for 'moharebeh' (waging war against God), and this sentence was executed on Sunday with the approval of the Supreme Court and the head of the judiciary. In December 2014, reports emerged about attacks on several young women in Jahrom, including some students from the local Azad University. These reports gained wide attention following an acid attack on several women in Isfahan. Hojjatollah Rezaei, the head of the special governorate of Jahrom, announced on Saturday, December 8, 2014, that the perpetrator of these attacks had been arrested within 72 hours and confessed to his crime. Subsequently, some news websites, including Saham News, reported that Saeed Beheshti Far was a member of the Basij and had confessed during initial interrogations that he committed these acts after hearing remarks from Ahmad Khatami, who deemed 'the spilling of blood of the improperly veiled permissible,' with the aim of 'enjoining good and forbidding wrong.' However, at that time, Mohammad Rezaei, the representative of Jahrom in the ninth parliament, denied these reports, stating that the individual had personal motives and that the assailant's father, who is a member of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, had handed him over. According to an image previously published by Saham News of the death sentence of Saeed Beheshti Far, the judge determined the defendant's actions to be 'a concrete example of the legal and jurisprudential definition of moharebeh.' The court ruling stated that Mr. Beheshti Far was a civil engineering student at Azad University and had recently been employed on a contract basis by the Department of Roads and Urban Development.
