Kamala Harris Officially Accepts Democratic Nomination for U.S. Presidential Election

On the fourth and final night of the Democratic National Convention held in Chicago, Kamala Harris officially accepted the party's nomination for the U.S. presidential election. During the event, which took place on Thursday evening, September 1, Ms. Harris stated that she accepts this nomination on behalf of her mother, on behalf of all Americans 'regardless of party, race, gender, or the language their grandmother speaks,' and on behalf of those who pursue their dreams through hard work. In her acceptance speech, she also described the consequences of Donald Trump's return to the White House as 'very serious' and said, 'We are not going back with Donald Trump.' Kamala Harris also reiterated her support for Israel's right to defend itself while emphasizing the need to achieve a hostage release agreement and a ceasefire in Gaza. She assured that she would not hesitate to take any action 'necessary to defend our forces and interests against Iran and Iran-backed terrorists.' Kamala Harris was the first woman to reach the vice presidency in the United States and, if victorious in the 2024 election, would become the first female president of the United States. Before Ms. Harris, several Democratic figures, including several members of Congress and some governors from various states, spoke. Joe Biden, the President of the United States, also, while the convention was taking place, posted a photo showing him talking to Kamala Harris before her speech at the convention, stating that they could not wait any longer to accept this historic nomination. Throughout the four-day Democratic National Convention, public speeches and acceptance speeches were held at the 'United Center' in West Chicago, while the convention sessions and voting of proxy representatives continued at another location in the city, in the 'McCormick' hall. Some attendees on the final night of the Democratic National Convention wore white to emphasize women's voting rights and also in reference to the 'first Black president.' Hours before the start of the Democratic National Convention, Donald Trump, the Republican nominee, criticized the Democratic Party's immigration policies and Kamala Harris again by visiting the U.S.-Mexico border area. The U.S. presidential election is scheduled to take place on November 6 this year. Alongside the four-day Democratic convention in Chicago, protests and marches against the Gaza war have also continued in the city. Protesters are calling for an end to U.S. military support for Israel in the Gaza war, and their largest demonstration, attended by several thousand people, occurred on Monday, coinciding with the start of the Democratic National Convention. During that protest, several demonstrators crossed the barriers around the convention site, and police arrested at least 13 people. Meanwhile, the Associated Press reported that proxy representatives known as 'non-aligned' present at the Democratic National Convention criticized that they had not yet been allowed to speak. During the Democratic primary elections, several supporters and members of the party voted 'non-aligned' in criticism of Joe Biden's administration's policies towards the current Israeli government. Over the past four days, protesters against the Gaza war have mainly gathered at 'Union Park' in Chicago, and their activities continued on the final day of the Democratic National Convention. Their largest demonstration, which was attended by several thousand people, took place on Monday, coinciding with the start of the Democratic National Convention. On Tuesday, police reported that in clashes with illegal protesters outside the Israeli consulate in Chicago, 56 people were arrested.
