Kamala Harris Selects Tim Walz, Governor of Minnesota, as Vice Presidential Candidate

Mr. Walz also expressed on X, formerly Twitter, that this is the greatest honor of his life to join Kamala Harris's campaign. Mr. Walz, alongside Josh Shapiro, the Governor of Pennsylvania, had the highest chances of being selected as Ms. Harris's running mate. In response to Mr. Walz's selection, Mr. Shapiro announced that he would travel across Pennsylvania in the next 90 days to encourage citizens to support Kamala Harris and her chosen vice president. Kamala Harris has secured the necessary votes for the Democratic nomination. After Joe Biden's withdrawal, she has become the Democratic nominee for the presidential election, where she will compete against Donald Trump, the Republican nominee and former president. The Chair of the Democratic National Committee announced on the evening of August 3 that Kamala Harris had garnered enough votes to secure the party's nomination. Joe Biden's vice president hopes to strengthen her position in the Midwestern states, which play a significant role in electing the president, by selecting Tim Walz. The 60-year-old Mr. Walz, a veteran of the U.S. National Guard, former school coach, and teacher, has served as the elected governor of Minnesota since 2018. As governor, he has implemented progressive programs including free meals in schools, combating climate change, tax reductions for the middle class, and increasing paid leave for Minnesota workers. Kamala Harris, who is the daughter of immigrants from India and Jamaica, has introduced a popular Midwestern politician as her vice president, which provides a reliable base for Democrats in her own state while also being close to two key battleground states, Wisconsin and Michigan.
