Kamyar Shapur: An Artist Who Never Escaped the Crisis

Kamyar Shapur, born on June 19, 1957, a painter, artist, and the son of poet Forough Farrokhzad and humorist Parviz Shapur, passed away on July 16 at the age of 66 due to a heart attack in Tehran. For a long time, Kamyar Shapur was known to Iranians curious about literature primarily as the child of these two prominent figures; even now, after his passing, many still see him merely as their son. However, Kamyar Shapur left behind numerous designs and paintings, as well as two poetry collections titled 'A Room in the Suburbs' and 'Love is a Metal Sculpture and Golden Fragrant Lights.' Additionally, he collaborated with writer and humorist Omran Salahi to compile a collection of love letters and correspondence between Forough Farrokhzad and Parviz Shapur. Kamyar Shapur also published a collection titled 'I Fill My Fountain Pen with Sunshine!' which includes letters from his father to him. Radio Farda conducted an interview with Bijan Asadi Pour, the editor of 'Art Office,' a veteran humorist, and a close friend of Parviz Shapur, who has known Kamyar Shapur since his childhood. In the interview, Bijan Asadi Pour reflects on Kamyar Shapur's works and provides insights into his childhood, youth, and middle age, stating that although he was an artist who tried his luck in painting, poetry, and street music, he 'lived in crisis from birth to death' and 'never managed to emerge from the shadow of his mother and father to establish himself as an independent and distinctive artist.' Therefore, Bijan Asadi Pour believes that 'Kamyar Shapur's own artistic works carry less weight than those he produced in connection with his mother and father.'
