Kaveh Golestan's Website Launched

The website of the late Kaveh Golestan, a prominent Iranian photographer and filmmaker, has finally been launched in English, four months after his passing. Kaveh Golestan, born in 1950, died on the 2nd of April this year while accompanying a team of BBC journalists to film a news story in northern Iraq when he stepped on a landmine. The Golestan website presents his biography along with a selection of his photographs, films, and writings. For instance, the photo section showcases images captured by the late artist over his tireless years of work on topics such as the revolution, the Iran-Iraq war, events in Kurdistan, workers, and sex workers, among others. The handwritten notes section includes writings by Kaveh Golestan on photography during the Qajar era and also mentions the photography of Lawrence Lockhart, an English photographer, in Iran. Leili Golestan, the late Golestan's sister, states: 'Our goal in launching this website is to better identify Kaveh Golestan to those who are not very familiar with him, especially the younger generation. In fact, we have aimed to clarify Kaveh's true place in Iranian photojournalism by showcasing a selection of the various topics he covered.' When asked if she thinks that publishing content only in English would hinder their goals, she acknowledges: 'Yes, you are right. I also pointed this out when the site was to be launched, and I believe that the content should be presented in both Persian and English.'
