Kevin Spacey Trial; British Prosecutor Describes American Star as a 'Sexual Bully'

The trial of renowned American actor Kevin Spacey began on Friday in London on charges of 'sexual harassment.' A British prosecutor described the Oscar-winning actor as a 'sexual bully' who harasses men and is provoked by the rejection of his one-sided advances. The 63-year-old Spacey is facing twelve charges of sexual offenses related to four men between 2001 and 2013, who were in their twenties to thirties at the time. Spacey's attorney declared him innocent, stating, 'All these allegations are false.' Prosecutor Christian Egnu told the jury in his opening remarks that Spacey is 'not just a ruthless' famous actor with multiple awards, but 'a man who harasses other men.' Egnu described Spacey as 'a man who does not respect boundaries or personal spaces, a man who seems to take pleasure in creating feelings of helplessness and discomfort in others - a sexual bully.' Kevin Spacey Fowler, appearing in a gray suit, gold tie, and glasses, is on trial for repeated sexual harassment and inappropriate sexual behavior. He is also accused of a more serious crime that involves engaging in sexual intercourse without consent, which carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment. Patrick Gibbs, Spacey's lawyer, stated, 'Each of the charges relating to non-consensual sexual behavior is completely denied. Mr. Spacey, as he said, has returned to the UK to answer them and will, at the appropriate time, explain what really happened to put an end to all the rumors and speculation.' The prosecutor detailed various instances of sexual harassment and inappropriate sexual behavior by Spacey, including complete details such as touching sexual organs or oral sex with victims. The prosecutor stated that Spacey exhibited aggressive and violent behavior when faced with negative responses or objections from victims, which seemed to excite him further. The charges against Spacey, a two-time Oscar winner for 'American Beauty' and 'The Usual Suspects,' relate to a period when he was mostly residing in London and working at the 'Old Vic' theater. The prosecutor noted Spacey's explanation to the police, where he claimed not to remember some of his accusers and denied their allegations, while also adding that 'it is entirely possible and indeed likely' that he made an advance towards someone he does not remember. The prosecutor said the jury must decide whether the accusers are lying or making claims for financial gain, as some have also sued the actor in civil courts. He added, 'Or, as the prosecution says, Mr. Spacey Fowler has abused the power and influence of his position and fame.' Spacey's lawyer stated that the story certainly has two sides, and the jury must examine what really happened, whether it was consensual, and the motives of the accusers for bringing their claims. He continued, 'You will hear some facts, some half-truths, and many deliberate exaggerations and lies.' The trial is expected to last four weeks.
