Khamenei: The Government Should Block the Path of 'Violation' by the Other Party in the Nuclear Agreement

Ali Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Republic, described reaching a comprehensive nuclear agreement as a 'significant step' and urged Hassan Rouhani to be vigilant about the behavior of the other party in implementing this agreement. The website of Ayatollah Khamenei published his response letter to Hassan Rouhani regarding the comprehensive nuclear agreement on Wednesday, July 24, in which he expressed gratitude to the Iranian negotiating team. In this letter, Khamenei wrote: 'The conclusion of these negotiations is a significant step; however, it is necessary to carefully consider the text that has been prepared and ensure it follows the legal path, and then, if approved, measures should be taken to guard against potential violations by the other party and to block that path.' The leader of the Islamic Republic further added: 'You know well that some of the six opposing states are by no means trustworthy.' Ayatollah Khamenei had predicted that the nuclear negotiations would not yield results, but at the same time, he added that although he is not optimistic about these negotiations, he does not oppose them and encourages negotiators to make their efforts. On Tuesday, following the nuclear agreement between Iran and the world powers, the only statement attributed to Khamenei that related to this agreement was his gratitude to the Iranian negotiating team. This agreement limits Iran's nuclear program, and in return, international sanctions related to Tehran's nuclear activities will be lifted. The website of Khamenei simultaneously published the text of Hassan Rouhani's letter to the leader of the Islamic Republic, in which he referred to the nuclear agreement as a 'victory' and stated that Iran's international position has been elevated due to the nuclear negotiations. In part of Rouhani's letter to Khamenei, he wrote: 'This agreement clearly showed that we can engage in dialogue with world powers while maintaining the dignity of the country and adhering to the red lines of the system, and with confidence based on the legitimacy of our positions and diplomatic capabilities, compel world powers to accept our logical positions.' On Tuesday, Hassan Rouhani also stated that Iran has achieved all its goals regarding the lifting of sanctions and the continuation of its nuclear activities with this agreement.
