Kurdistan Human Rights Network: Health Condition of Saman Yasin is 'Unsatisfactory'

The Kurdistan Human Rights Network reported that Saman Yasin, a imprisoned protest rapper, is in 'unsatisfactory' health due to a continued hunger strike and deprivation of access to medical services. According to this human rights group, more than 15 months after the arrest of this young singer from Kermanshah, he remains in detention at the 'Ghazal Hesar' prison in Karaj without a clear legal status. The Kurdistan Human Rights Network stated that in recent months, the court session for this Kurdish political prisoner in Branch 28 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Tehran, presided over by Judge Amouzad, has been postponed for various reasons. The report indicates that Saman Yasin's detention continues while he suffers from respiratory issues due to a rupture of the left nasal cavity as a result of torture during interrogation, and gastrointestinal bleeding. Reza Shafakhah, the lawyer for this political prisoner, wrote on his personal page on the social media platform 'X' in Azar of this year: 'Despite more than a year since the issuance of the arrest warrant for my client, he remains unlawfully detained.' This lawyer also expressed concern for his client's health, stating that he 'medically cannot endure continued detention. Therefore, the matter has been referred to the medical commission, and we are awaiting results.' This political prisoner, in a voice file that was made available to the Kurdistan Human Rights Network, referred to the torture he endured during detention, including mock executions, the rupture of his nasal cavity due to torture by security interrogators, and pressure to make forced confessions. Since his arrest, he has been transferred several times between Evin prison in Tehran, Rajai Shahr, and Ghazal Hesar. Saman Yasin, a singer who participated in the nationwide protests last year following the death of Mahsa Amini in the custody of the morality police, was arrested in Mehr 1401 in Tehran and initially sentenced to death for 'moharebeh' (waging war against God). This sentence was overturned by the Supreme Court and his case was referred back to the court for re-examination. Recently, Javaid Rehman, the UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Iran, described the human rights situation in Iran as a 'bitter reality' and urged the international community not to remain silent in the face of widespread human rights violations in Iran. Previously, Michelle Taylor, the U.S. Permanent Representative to the UN Human Rights Council, criticized the 'blatant disregard of the Iranian regime for human rights and freedom of expression.'
