Kurdistan Human Rights Network: Three prisoners accused of 'spying for Israel' were tortured before execution

On Tuesday, March 7, the Kurdistan Human Rights Network reported that two months after the 'execution' of three Kurdish citizens accused of 'spying for Israel', it has come to light that they were tortured by agents of the Islamic Republic prior to the execution. According to the report, Aram Omri Biryani, Rahman Parhazo, and Vafa Hanareh were subjected to 'severe torture' in solitary confinement by agents of the central prison of Urmia before their execution. An 'informed source' told the Kurdistan Human Rights Network that about 10 days before the execution, these three prisoners were summoned to the prison's execution office and, in the presence of a delegation from Tehran, were told that 'if they expressed remorse, their case would be sent to the Commission for Amnesty and Pardon and they would be pardoned.' According to the report, these three prisoners signed a document without being allowed to read its contents just before the execution. The source stated that while these three prisoners were still waiting for a response from the Commission for Amnesty and Pardon, on the seventh of Dey (December 27), they were transferred to solitary confinement for execution without prior notice. After their last meeting with their families, they realized that contrary to previous claims of possible pardon and release, their execution was to be carried out. The source added: 'For this reason, a few hours before the execution, they began to protest in their cells. The prison guards stormed the cells and beat them with batons. While Aram Omri Biryani, Rahman Parhazo, and Vafa Hanareh were severely injured, they were dragged with bloodied bodies on the ground to the execution site. These prisoners shouted until the moment of execution, 'We are innocent, do not execute us.' The death sentences of Aram Omri Biryani, Rahman Parhazo, Vafa Hanareh, and Nasim Namazi were carried out on the eighth of Dey, and the Urmia prison authorities refused to hand over their bodies to their families, and their burial site remains unknown.
