Larijani: Terrorist Actions in Turkey are a Reflection of Regional Crisis

The Speaker of the Islamic Consultative Assembly, Ali Larijani, reacted to the deadly attacks in Ankara on Sunday morning, October 19, stating that the "dirty terrorist actions in Turkey" are another aspect of the crisis in the region and expressed hope that Turkey's friends would pay serious attention to the issue. According to IRNA news agency, Larijani mentioned in a speech during an open session of the Assembly that the "dirty terrorist actions in Turkey, which took the lives of dozens of Muslims, reflect another facet of the regional crisis, and I hope Turkey's friends will seriously consider the story of the region's terrorists." It seems that Larijani's "expression of hope" regarding Turkey's government attention relates to the stances of the two countries, especially concerning Syria, where Turkey is one of the main opponents of Bashar al-Assad's regime, unlike Iran. Before addressing the Ankara explosions, Larijani expressed condolences for the death of Hossein Hamadani, a commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), in Syria. Hamadani was a commander of the "Mohammad Rasoulallah" Corps in Tehran during the suppression of protests in 2009 and was considered a senior commander and advisor of the IRGC. Larijani then spoke about the recent tensions between Israel and the Palestinians, accusing Islamic countries of not raising their voices. He also criticized what he called the "resistance forces," stating that their discussions of a false ceasefire led to lethargy. The Speaker condemned the bombing of a Médecins Sans Frontières hospital in Kunduz by the U.S. military and the recent explosions at a wedding ceremony in Yemen. The United States has announced that it will compensate the families of the victims of the Kunduz incident, with President Barack Obama apologizing for the event and promising a thorough and impartial investigation. After these points, Larijani brought up the attacks in Ankara, stating that all these events have a common direction, which is the "creation of security conflicts and crises in Islamic countries." The suicide bombings in Ankara have so far resulted in 95 deaths and nearly 250 injuries, making them the deadliest attacks on Turkish soil. Previously, the Iranian Foreign Ministry condemned these explosions, with spokesperson Marzieh Afkham expressing sorrow over the terrorist explosion in Ankara that resulted in the deaths and injuries of many innocent people. Leaders from other countries, including the U.S. and Russia, have also condemned the Ankara attacks.
