Latest Status of Several Imprisoned Students - 2004-02-10

Dear compatriots, on Thursday, 21/11/82, Hashemi Shahroudi is set to visit Evin Prison, while in recent days, the administration of Evin Prison has noticeably changed, with all cells and general wards being reviewed. Meanwhile, Mehrdad Lehrasbi, one of the imprisoned students from the events of 18 Tir, has been in poor prison conditions for about five years and the court has refused to accept his bail for a few days of leave, contrary to legal standards. The same applies to Abbas Deldar, another imprisoned student. Akbar Mohammadi has also repeatedly requested the court and prison liaison to arrange for him to go to a hospital outside the prison. This is not the first time he has requested treatment from prison officials. It is noteworthy that Ahmad Batebi has been granted leave for two days and is expected to have his leave extended to eight days by court order. Additionally, Yahya Safi Aryan and Alireza Khoshbakht, students from Hamadan University, have been summoned to the Revolutionary Court. There is still no information regarding the charges against these two Hamadan students. It should be mentioned that following a protest gathering on Sunday at Tehran University, a student named Ms. Pegah Hamzaei was arrested and taken to an unknown location. The organization below expresses its concern over the new wave of arrests of student activists and considers recent actions as intimidation against the fighters of the new student movement, calling for an end to repression and threats against this group of political activists in society.
