The lawyer of Mashallah Karami, the father of a victim seeking justice, announced that the Revolutionary Court has not yet communicated his client's sentence to him. Ali Sharifzadeh Ardekanian wrote on his 'X' page on Tuesday, June 1: 'The sentence of the Revolutionary Court for Mashallah Karami has not yet been communicated to me, and the charge of fraud is not correct. Two charges of money laundering and acquiring property through illegitimate means are being reviewed in the Criminal Court 2 of Nazarabad, and no sentence has been issued.' This statement comes after some sources reported that sentences of six years in prison and confiscation of all Mashallah Karami's assets had been issued by the Revolutionary and Criminal Courts. Mashallah Karami, the father of Mohammad Mahdi Karami, an executed protester, was arrested on August 31 last year, and government agents seized all his electronic devices and blocked his family's bank cards. Mohammad Mahdi Karami was executed on January 7, 2023, during the nationwide protests 'Women, Life, Freedom' on charges of killing a Basij member named Rouhollah Ajmiyan. Ali Sharifzadeh Ardekanian had previously assessed the court session for Mashallah Karami on April 23 positively, stating that after eight months of his client's detention, he had found a 'suitable opportunity for defense' and that 'the judge listened to our arguments.' This court session was held to address two charges: 'propaganda against the regime' and 'gathering and collusion against national security.' According to reports, during Mashallah Karami's detention, his family faced repeated harassment from the Islamic Republic's security forces. Human rights organizations have repeatedly criticized the actions of the Islamic Republic's intelligence and judicial authorities for exerting pressure on plaintiffs and the families of victims of the nationwide protests. Manouchehr Bakhtiari was sentenced to an additional 13 months and 15 days in prison following 'case-making in prison.'
