Lawyer of Mashallah Karami Reports: Temporary Release Denied

According to the lawyer of Mashallah Karami, the father of Mohammad Mahdi Karami, the executed protester, the Second Branch of the Revolutionary Court of Karaj has opposed converting the detention order of Mashallah Karami to allow for his temporary release. Ali Sharifzadeh Ardakani posted on social media that the court session to address the charges against his client will be held on April 23. Sharifzadeh Ardakani wrote that the judge has rejected the request to change Mr. Karami's temporary detention to a suitable bail for his temporary release. Mashallah Karami was arrested on August 22, 2023, by the intelligence agencies of the Islamic Republic, and his electronic devices were confiscated, and his family's bank cards were also blocked. With the continued harassment of other members of the Karami family, on November 3, 2023, while more than 70 days had passed since Mashallah Karami's arrest, his wife and other child were forced to leave their home due to 'multiple raids' by agents. Helga Limburg, a German legislator who had taken political custody of Mohammad Mahdi Karami, the executed protester, announced that she has also accepted the political custody of his father. In a previous interview with the Persian section of Voice of America conducted on October 20, she referred to the continuous presence of Mohammad Mahdi Karami's parents at the grave of Mohammad Hosseini, another executed protester, stating: 'We all saw those brave images of Mehdi Karami's parents after his burial.' The indictment for Mashallah Karami includes four charges; the first trial session will be held on April 17. The harassment of a seeking justice family continues; Mashallah Karami has been in detention in Karaj for 196 days. News sources reported the arrest of the father of Mohsen Shekari, another executed protester. Five charges have been filed against Mashallah Karami, the seeking justice father, in court. The 'Majidreza Rahnavard Courage Award' was presented to Mashallah Karami and Fatemeh Sepahri in Canada. The court has been postponed 'for unknown reasons'; there are warnings about the possibility of broadcasting 'forced confessions' from Mashallah Karami.
