Lawyer of Mohammad Nourizad: My client was kept in solitary confinement for three days with his hands and feet bound

Mohammad Hossein Aghasi, a lawyer and legal expert representing Mohammad Nourizad, a civil activist opposed to the Islamic Republic, has protested against his client's detention "with his hands and feet bound" in solitary confinement. On Tuesday, January 1, he announced on X (formerly Twitter) that he met with Mr. Nourizad in the presence of some prison officials and wrote: "Until I heard it from him in front of the officials supervising the visit, I did not believe that he had been kept for three days in solitary confinement with his hands and feet bound." The lawyer further stated that this punishment does not seem "legal" for someone who is of sound mind. On January 1, Mohammad Nourizad's account posted an audio file quoting his wife, stating that Mr. Nourizad had been in solitary confinement for three days with "his hands and feet bound." Fatemeh Maleki, Mr. Nourizad's wife, confirmed this on January 1 in an interview with Radio Farda, stating that she managed to meet her husband, who had been banned from visits, after "insisting." She mentioned that during this visit, the political prisoner appeared very weak and thin, and they had to support him under his arms to walk. Following the news, over 950 civil and political activists residing in Iran and around the world called for his immediate release, citing his physical condition and detention circumstances. The signatories of this statement, a copy of which reached Radio Farda on Saturday, January 6, warned that he faces "life-threatening" risks at any moment. Mohammad Nourizad, a documentary filmmaker, journalist, and political activist, was sentenced to 15 years in prison and other penalties due to his political criticisms and signing a letter calling for the resignation of Ali Khamenei, and he is currently serving his tenth year in Evin prison.
