Leader of US Senate Republicans Calls for Severe Sanctions Against the Islamic Republic in Response to Hamas Attacks on Israel

Mitch McConnell, the leader of the Republican Party in the US Senate, has called for severe sanctions against the Islamic Republic of Iran in response to Hamas's attacks on Israel. In an article published in the Wall Street Journal, McConnell wrote, 'The Islamic Republic of Iran has been involved in Hamas's attacks on Israel, and it is necessary for the US and its allies to impose new and stringent sanctions against the Iranian regime.' Meanwhile, John Kirby, the White House Coordinator for Strategic Communications, stated on Monday that although the United States does not yet have information or evidence of direct Iranian involvement in Hamas's attacks on Israel, 'they are an accomplice.' The Republican leader further urged America's Western allies to revoke permission for Iranian planes to fly over their territories, seize Iranian ships, sanction Iranian banks, and halt their commercial activities with the Islamic Republic. McConnell also emphasized the need to provide military and intelligence assistance to Israel to counter Hamas, adding that political leaders and policymakers must 'distinguish between the aggressor and the victim' and avoid 'calling on both sides to de-escalate' since it is Israel that must defend itself. The President of the United States announced on Saturday, during the early hours of Hamas's assault on Israel, Washington's 'full support' for the Israeli government and people in a conversation with the Israeli Prime Minister. Joe Biden also expressed deep sorrow the following day regarding the missing, injured, and killed Israelis in the 'unprecedented and horrific attacks by Hamas terrorists,' asserting that there is absolutely no justification for terrorism and that all countries must unite against these brutal crimes.
