Legal Case Filed Against Secretary General of Iranian Teachers' Organization

The spokesperson for the Iranian Teachers' Organization has reported the formation of a legal case against Tahereh Naghiyeh, the organization's secretary general, and the confiscation of her personal and communication devices. According to the website and Telegram channel 'Sokhan-e Moalem', which covers news and developments related to teachers' issues, Mohammad Davari, the spokesperson, stated that 'security agents' visited Ms. Naghiyeh's home, and after a search, took her 'laptop, mobile phone, and personal flash drive'. Mr. Davari indicated that the legal case against Tahereh Naghiyeh was initiated on charges of 'conspiracy to commit crimes against internal and external security' and 'propaganda against the Islamic Republic' at the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor's Office of District 33, Shahid Moqaddas (Security) in Tehran. As reported by the 'Analytical-News Base of the Iranian Teachers' Organization', on the morning of Tuesday, April 22, 'four agents' with a warrant for 'searching the home and confiscating personal electronic devices' went to Tahereh Naghiyeh's residence, and after searching and taking her belongings, announced that she must appear at Evin Prosecutor's Office within five days. Despite Ms. Naghiyeh's insistence on 'documenting' and receiving a 'receipt for the confiscated items', the agents present at her home refused. The Iranian Teachers' Organization has been one of the institutions in recent years advocating for teachers' livelihood and civil rights. According to the organization's spokesperson, Tahereh Naghiyeh visited the 'Evin Prosecutor's Office' on April 29 after receiving a 'phone notification' and did not answer questions due to her lawyer's unavailability because of a scheduling conflict, stating that any response was contingent on her lawyer's presence. Mohammad Davari noted that most of the questions directed at Tahereh Naghiyeh were related to 'tweets, statements, and content published on the Sokhan-e Moalem Telegram channel', and she is currently free on 'bail'. Teachers have been among the protesting groups regarding their livelihood and civil rights over the past years, consistently facing summons, arrests, and security confrontations from the Iranian security and judicial apparatus.
