Legal Case Formed Against Cleric Who Assaulted Elderly Woman in Special Clergy Court

The news agency 'Mizan', affiliated with the judiciary, reported the formation of a legal case against a cleric who assaulted an elderly woman. On Saturday, a video was circulated on social media showing a cleric beating a middle-aged woman after an argument and then destroying a fence of a house. Following the widespread social reaction to the video, the public prosecutor of Gilan province provided details of the incident, stating: 'This conflict was rooted in familial disputes, and this woman is the brother's wife of the cleric.' According to Mahdi Fallah Miry, based on the woman's complaint, the Gilan prosecutor's office has intervened, forming a legal case against the accused and referring it to the special clergy court. However, hours later, Hashim Mir Hosseini, the public prosecutor of Langeroud, announced that serious action would be taken against those who filmed and published images of the 'assault on the elderly woman by a cleric.' Behrouz Farzaneh, the village chief of Sheshlu in Langeroud County, also stated in an interview with 'Aftab News' that the conflict was over land and a passageway. According to the village chief, the husband of the woman who was beaten in the video owned a piece of land in front of their home, which 'this cleric', who is related to them, had used for years 'without permission and without payment for passage', leading to disputes between the two families. The village chief mentioned that in the 'development plan', a separate path would be given to 'the cleric', and after that, the woman in the video told the cleric that 'she is no longer willing to allow him to pass through their land without permission', which caused the conflict between the two families. The village chief stated that Bahram Gohari is the landowner whose wife, Homa Youssefian, was assaulted by Gohari's brother, who is a cleric, leading to the filing of a complaint and the case being sent to the special clergy court.
