Mahmoud Mehrabi's Lawyer Reports 'Reversal' of His Client's Death Sentence by the Supreme Court

The lawyer of Mahmoud Mehrabi, a political prisoner, states that his client's death sentence has been revoked by the Supreme Court. Babak Farsani announced on his account on the 'X' network on Sunday night, October 15, that the death sentence against his client, accused of 'corruption on earth,' has been overturned and the case has been referred for re-examination to an equivalent branch in the Revolutionary Court of Isfahan. Mahmoud Mehrabi was arrested in Bahman 1401 (January 2023) during the nationwide protests in Iran following the death of Mahsa Amini while in custody of the Guidance Patrol and was transferred to Dastgerd Prison in Isfahan. This political prisoner was released on bail in Farvardin 1402 (April 2023), but after a few hours, he was re-arrested when agents of the Isfahan Intelligence Corps raided his father's home in Mobarakeh, Isfahan. Subsequently, the 'Dadban' account on X, which provides legal advice and training to detainees and activists, reported that Mahmoud Mehrabi was accused of 'corruption on earth' due to his activities on social media. The state-run news agency Mizan had stated last year that Mahmoud Mehrabi had published content in the virtual space during the protests of 1401 (2022), including 'instructions for using homemade weapons, calls for the destruction of public property, incitement to war and killing, and insults to the sacred,' allegations that were denied by Mehrabi's family and lawyer. Amnesty International mentioned in Khordad this year that 15 prisoners associated with the 'Women, Life, Freedom' movement were at risk of execution, including Mahmoud Mehrabi. This international human rights organization had called for the suspension of these death sentences in a letter addressed to Gholamhossein Mohseni Eje'i, the head of the judiciary of the Islamic Republic. Maryam Mehrabi, Mahmoud Mehrabi's sister, was also arrested on Khordad 29 this year along with her two young daughters by security forces at her home and sentenced to six years in prison and additional penalties.
