Mahshahr Revolutionary Court Sentences Political Prisoner Ali Obaidavi to Death

Human rights media reported the issuance of a prison and death sentence for Ali Obaidavi, a political prisoner, and a long-term prison sentence for his brother, Hossein Obaidavi. According to the Iran Human Rights Center, the Mahshahr Revolutionary Court on Wednesday, January 24, sentenced Ali Obaidavi to four years in prison and death, while his brother, Hossein Obaidavi, received a 13-year prison sentence. The charges against the two brothers were labeled as 'attacking a Basij forces base,' which both brothers have denied. Based on the report from the Iran Human Rights Center, the two brothers were arrested in 2019 on charges of attacking a Basij base in Hamidiyeh, Khuzestan province, and are currently held in Mahshahr Central Prison. According to the Hengaw Human Rights Organization, these political prisoners were severely tortured during their detention and forced to confess against themselves. The report states that they have been imprisoned for the past four years without the right to leave.
