Majgan Salmānzādeh, Bahá'í Citizen, Arrested

News sources reported that agents of the Islamic Republic's intelligence arrested a Bahá'í citizen named Majgan Salmānzādeh 10 days ago in the city of Makoo in West Azerbaijan province. According to a report published on Sunday, July 24, Majgan Salmānzādeh, a researcher in physiological psychology studies, has been detained since Thursday, July 14, in Makoo. The website 'Hengaw' announced that Majgan Salmānzādeh, who resided in Tehran, was arrested after a two-week stay in Makoo and informed her relatives via phone that she had been transferred to the general section of Makoo Central Prison. The report states that details regarding the reason for her arrest and the charges against her are not available, and 'her temporary release has been opposed.' Bahá'í citizens have systematically faced execution, widespread social and political discrimination, and illegal actions, including arrests and desecration of their cemeteries, since the Iranian Revolution of February 1979. According to last year's annual report by the 'International Religious Freedom Commission,' the repression, violence, discrimination, and social stigmatization by the Iranian government against Bahá'í citizens have intensified. The U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom has also expressed concern over the increased pressure on religious minorities in Iran and the Islamic Republic's campaign to arrest Bahá'ís. Additionally, the European Union recently issued a statement urging Iranian officials to ensure that all Iranians, including minorities like Bahá'ís, fully enjoy human rights and fundamental freedoms. Furthermore, three Bahá'í citizens were sentenced to more than six years in prison in a provincial appeals court in Fars. Mahvash Sabet, a Bahá'í prisoner, has been deprived of phone contact and family visits 'by court order.' The Isfahan Revolutionary Court sentenced a Bahá'í citizen to ten years in prison, confiscation of property, and other penalties. Ten female political prisoners have expressed their support for Bahá'í citizens, stating they stand by them to end their compounded suffering.
