Majid Khademi Summoned Again by Prosecutor; Fourteenth Day of Ali Zargani's Hunger Strike

An informed source told Voice of America that Majid Khademi, a civil activist sentenced to 10 years in prison, has been summoned to the criminal court in Behbahan to address a new charge. Reports also indicate the deteriorating health of Ali Zargani on the fourteenth day of his hunger strike in Shiban Prison in Ahvaz. Majid Khademi, a civil activist from Behbahan who had previously been sentenced to a total of 10 years in prison, has once again been summoned to the public and revolutionary prosecutor's office in Behbahan 'upon the complaint of the prosecutor.' This informed source stated on Monday, August 1, that Majid Khademi, a former political prisoner and civil activist from Behbahan, whose 10-year prison sentence had recently been sent for execution, is now called to the prosecutor's office to address charges of 'buying, selling, possessing, transporting, concealing, or manufacturing explosive materials and disrupting public order and peace, and destruction and arson with explosive materials.' According to documents obtained by Voice of America, Majid Khademi must appear at 11 AM on August 7 in Branch 102 of the Second Criminal Court of Behbahan in Khuzestan Province. Previously, Majid Khademi, a detained protester from December 2019 in Behbahan, was sentenced by the Revolutionary Court of Mahshahr to 10 years and three months of imprisonment, six years and three months of which are enforceable, along with a two-year travel ban and deprivation of membership in political and social groups. In another report, news sources have reported that Ali Zargani, a political prisoner in Shiban Prison in Ahvaz, has suffered from 'severe pressure drop' on the fourteenth day of his hunger strike. Arash Sadeghi, a human rights defender, reported his condition as 'critical' in a tweet on August 1. Ali Zargani was sentenced to five years in prison by the Revolutionary Court of Ahvaz at the end of July on charges of 'gathering and colluding against the regime,' and this report emphasizes that his hunger strike is a protest against the issuance of this sentence without informing him of the charges and without the right to have a lawyer and fair trial.
