Majority of U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee: 'The People of Iran Deserve Better Than This Incompetent and Corrupt Regime'

The majority of the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee, chaired by Republican lawmaker Brian Mast from Florida, condemned the Iranian government's crackdown on protesters in a statement. This committee, which is under Republican majority, stated in a declaration released on Tuesday, January 9, during the third day of nationwide anti-government protests in Iran, that the Islamic Republic's action of 'brutally suppressing its own people is shocking.' The statement continued: 'The people of Iran deserve better than this incompetent and corrupt regime; a regime that always prioritizes personal interests over the needs of its citizens.' The majority of the House Foreign Affairs Committee stated: 'We stand with the people of Iran and their right to choose a better path.' This statement, published on the social media platform X, also included an image of a report regarding the crackdown on protesters in Tehran on Monday. Previously, several other American lawmakers, including Roger Wicker, Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee and Republican Senator from Mississippi, have reacted to the ongoing protests in Iran. Mr. Wicker stated: 'Iranians have taken to the streets today in response to the economic devastation imposed on the country by the [Islamic Republic's] terrorism-supporting leadership.' The Chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee added: 'I support their efforts to have wise leadership that prioritizes the interests of the Iranian people, not those of Islamist terrorists. Iranians must be freed from the tyranny that has devastated their once-flourishing society.' Joe Wilson, a senior Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives, also wrote on X that he supports the protesters in Iran and referenced the fate of Bashar al-Assad and the end of dictatorship in Syria with his flight to Moscow. Anti-government slogans from students in Iran include: 'Death to Khamenei' and 'Death to the principle of Velayat-e Faqih.' Students from various universities in Iran have joined the anti-government protests. The reactions of American and international officials to the protests of the Iranian people continue to expand to various cities in Iran. On the third day of protests in various cities in Iran, students shouted: 'Death to Khamenei.' Netanyahu told Fox News that the Islamic Republic is seeking to rebuild its ballistic missile production capabilities.
