Man Executed in Hamadan for Allegedly Assaulting and Raping '200 Women'

Media in Iran report the execution of a man in Hamadan province who was convicted in '200' cases of 'harassment' and 'rape'. The identity of this individual has been revealed as 'Mohammad Ali Salamat', and his execution was carried out publicly on the morning of Tuesday, November 13, in 'Bagh-e Behesht' in Hamadan. The official news agency of the judiciary of the Islamic Republic, Mizan, did not publish statistics on the victims of this accused, only stating that he was convicted in 'several cases of rape'. However, on Monday, the head of the judiciary in Hamadan stated that the individual who had 'harassed more than 200 women and girls in this province would face the consequences of his actions the next morning.' According to Tasnim, 'Mohammad Ali Salamat', known as 'Ali Salamat', had lured his victims under the pretext of 'marriage, friendship, obtaining medication, and some by force and coercion'. The case against this accused was initiated on May 21, 2023, and many complainants reported extensive evidence of his violent acts. He was arrested on January 13, 2024, and the primary court sentenced him to death, which was upheld by the Supreme Court in September this year despite repeated requests from the accused and his lawyers for a review. Although a number of individuals are executed in Iran each year for committing this crime, this is one of the most extensive cases related to the sexual harassment of women in Iran. One of the notable features of this case is that a single accused committed this number of criminal acts.
